He and his wife, Janice, have three adult children and five grandchildren who reside in Dallas, Texas.

Venus Zuhura Noble was born in the 1960s in Chicago, Illinois. She is the author of A Quest for Healing and Balance. Seeing the need for change, her mother moved to the West Coast in 1970, choosing Berkeley, California, as their home. It was there that Venus got a look at war demonstrations at the University of California campus. This experience profoundly influenced her growing awareness of social issues. When she was nine years old, her family moved to East Oakland near the Sun of Man Temple, where she encountered Huey P. Newton and members of the Black Panther Party, which left a lasting impact on her. These encounters sparked her dedication to activism.

Robert Reese is the author of Billy's First Day of School. Robert's journey began in Galveston, Texas, where he was lovingly raised by his parents alongside his two brothers. Growing up as a Black child in the challenging landscape of 1960s America, his family eventually settled in Dallas, Texas—a vibrant city known for its State Fair and beloved sports teams like the Cowboys and Mavericks. Today, Robert pours his heart into children's literature, where his passion truly shines. What drives him most is his deep commitment to recognizing the unsung heroes in children's lives—the dedicated bus drivers who ensure safe journeys and the compassionate teachers who nurture young minds daily.
